ToGetHer recap - Episode 7
Mars spends his nights waiting for Momo to come home, as she works after school. Jia Sen comes back home with a gold medal he gives Momo. She explains that she can't go with him after school as she's working to earn money, but Jia Sen has a hard time with the concept.
Finally, a teammate explains it to him and he tries to give Momo money, but she refuses. At home Jia Sen is quiet causing his parents to worry and he announces he wants to work too.
Mars goes to buy medicine for Momo to boost her system, but finds he has little money left in the bank. He calls Yi Zhi, asking to find him any job so he can send money to his mom. Momo overhears and tells him he should be truthful to his mom or else she'll only have a fake image of him, but Mars tells her she doesn't know his mom. They continue to argue in the morning as well, with a perceptive Chu Chu looking on.
(It's the MOM! It's Mars hiding from Mom!)
Surprise, surprise!!! Mars' mom has come for a visit. She's very intimidating and Mars tries to hide from her. The whole thing is played like a farce really, the overbearing stage mother sort of thing, with mom going after Mars with a coat hanger.
After the whopping from his mom, Mars tries to find out if Momo found it very embarrassing, which she did. He should know by now he's like negative 50 on the Mars-coolness-meter, but luckily that's balanced out by his positive kindness and helpful meters. Momo apologizes to him for the argument they had earlier, realizing she didn't know what his mom was really like.
(Mom laying down the law with Tony and Mars)
Mom's back again the next day, with a makeover regimen for Mars starting with pushups, a facial, makeup, and last, clothes. She literally drags him to see Tony, where she proceeds to lay down the law, threatening to sue and when that doesn't work with Tony, cut Mars contract so he can go to another company.
But Tony tells her even if Mars released music or a movie, his popularity is such that no one would take the chance on him. And they can cut the contract, but that would require them to pay a substantial fee.
Mars bolts as soon as he can and they get in a heated discussion. Mars wants her to leave it alone and let him solve it his way. Mom strikes back that the way he's going he'll be a laborer or someone who sells food. He answers what's wrong with that, he'll still be her son. Mom's answer? "I don't want a son like you."
(Mom's meal for Mars, Momo reminds Mars who the real orphan around here is.)
Well, well, well. Mars goes to Yi Zhi's house, where he tells what happens and there are flashbacks to his mom and him as a young boy, where she sold noodles and did everything to support his dream of being a superstar, getting him dance and singing lessons.
Now Momo is the one waiting for Mars and pretending she's not. She can't call because how could she explain it since they're only landlord and tenant? She's still waiting the next day, when Mars' mom pays a visit. Finding Mars gone, she asks Momo to help her cook noodles for Mars. Momo being a good listener, Mom spills everything to her, telling her how proud she is of him.
Momo's heard enough and tells Mom she'll be right back. She rushes to Yi Zhi's (how did she know he was there, probably guessed) and rounds into Mars, telling him how his Mom came to make noodles for him. She won't be around forever, and he shouldn't take things for granted.
Mars resists at first, but then snaps to find his mom, checking at home, then the train station to no avail. He comes home desolate to the bowl of cold noodles his mom made for him and a note she left. Tears fall as he eats, with Momo and her sis watching silently. Momo finds him on the rooftop later and gives him a phone.
Mars phones his mom and they share a few tears as she says she's sorry and he promises her he'll make a comeback. Time to check out the Mars-coolness-meter again, as he asks Momo whose hanging laundry was he very embarrassing aka does this totally kill any chance of you and me as a couple? But Momo just says it's nothing she hasn't seen before and he goes what?
And a sheet flaps and their faces are near each others, he moves in for the kiss, and she dodges out of danger. Time for a tactical withdraw.
The episode ends with Momo and Jia Sen getting their first month's paycheck, which Jia Sen tries to give her (he went to work at the same place she did, holding a sign). But Momo tells him he must spend it on something very, very important to him.

Final Thoughts: Mars shows another side of his character with his mother, whom he seems to respect as much as he fears her. I wish they could have explored this relationship a bit more, a two episode arc at least. As it is, this episode seemed somewhat rushed, as if they fit in what could easily have been two episodes into one, with Mars' makeover, his meeting with Tony, argument with Mom, trying to find Mom and forgiving each other. That's a lot to fit into one episode. Well, at least I can't complain it's not fast paced enough.
