Thoughts on Duang Jai Akkanee and Awayjee See Chompoo
Why is it the dramas I'm watching these days have something to do with Romeo & Juliet? There's Guilty, a Japanese drama, but the only thing that's really Romeo and Juliet like about it is the ending with the kiss. And recently, I've been watching Duang Jai Akkanee. The lakorn was pretty popular and spawned a hot new young couple, Nadech Kugimiv and Urassaya Sperbund (Yaya). I've been hearing a lot about this couple and the lakorn, so I wanted to check it.
Outside of the the two feuding families of Duang Jai Akkanee, I really didn't see much resemblance to Romeo and Juliet, which is a favorite play of mine. Not until the dance scene that is, where the beautiful Yaya's appearance reminds me of the R& J dance scene from the 1968 movie. (Can I just add how unimpressed I was with the dance scenes in this drama which seemed very random and throw together at the last moment.)
I'm on the fourth episode now out of ten episodes, and I'm not impressed. The plot is full of contrivances, and gaping holes in logic.
For example, the main reason behind the feud between the two families is that the head of one of families, Jeed's father, got his girl stolen away by the head of the other family, Fai's dad. Think Lord Capulet loving Lady Montague, only to have her taken away from him by Lord Montague. What I don't get is why Jeed and her brother don't have any problem with the fact that their father can't let go of his love for another woman and why they would continue the feud in the first place. Apparently, their mom died with the girl's birth (Yaya), but still, why would the kids be pleased their dad's so caught up with another woman he continues to feud over her. This doesn't seem very respectful of their mom.
And the rest of the feud? Stupid arguments and conflicts over things like a hat both dads want to buy or winning a race. I mean really, that's all the writers could come up with? I'm going to see if I can come up with a better reason to feud in a minute's thinking. Think, think, okay, how about Fai's dad was somehow responsible for Jeed's mom's death, on top of the fact that Jeed's dad was in love with Fai's mom. See, that took about a second to come up with.

Nadech as Fai and Yaya as Jeed
The pairing of Nadech and Yaya was so popular that they'll be staring in two more lakorns this year alone, Game Rai Pai Game Rak, and Toranee Nee Nee Krai Krong to be subbed by wishboniko. I think Nadech's needs to grow into his looks, and really hams it up acting wise, while Yaya's very pretty and can cry nicely. They're a couple to look out for, but I didn't really see the smoking chemistry that I saw with Ann and Ken in any of their lakorns.
I've been much more impressed by Awayjee See Chompoo. Staring Tridsadee Sahawong (Por) and Jittapa Jampatom (Ja) as a couple who marry at her dying mom's wishes. Since Pawalam, played by Ja, is a high school student who's also a wealthy heiress, her mom wanted to protect her by getting Bapok (played by Por) to marry her.
It's a sweet little story, no slap and kiss here. I'm only on episode 3, since they're still subbing it on viki, but I like it alot already. Can't wait for to watch more. The interaction between the two is sooo cute, as she sees him as a older brother or uncle type, and he sees her as just a schoolkid at first. But underneath most of their actions and discussions is this underlying context of being husband and wife that I love. Here's a cute scene from episode 3 where they're becoming more aware of each other.
