Watching Now: Borisut Bumbut Kaen

Now there's a mouthful: Borisut Bumbut Kaen. Translated it means something like "Revenge Therapy Company," which makes no sense until you learn that the hero, Taywan, played by Aum Atichart goes into the spa therapy business as a way of getting revenge on Nong (Ann Thongprasom), a rich heiress married to Chakrit (Krit).

I'm taking a break from the Korean fest of dramas I've been watching, waiting until they finish up or near finish to resume watching them. For now, I'm four episodes into this thai lakorn, and becoming invested in the characters.
More about BBK under cut )

(Just a couple of the reasons why Nong's mental health is none too spiffy.)

If you like a revenge drama with romance, this is looking good.

365 Days of Love Episode 14 recap

"Before I never felt relieved,
I was alone and lonely, I had no one beside me.
I go through life encountering every danger,
I go through rain and wind alone."

'

"But today I get to associate with you,
Being with you gives my heart strength.
We will continue to walk and refuse to stop.
If I walk and make a mistake, I'll still have you.
"

A solid lakorn, with good directing and great acting by Anne and Ken. Here's hoping for more lakorns from them both! And together please? Pretty please? I think I'll leave it at that with some of the beautiful music from this lakorn.

365 Days of Love Episode 13 recap - A New Day

Ah, the beginning of the end. I thought about what image to post, and turned to one of my favorites, Lan crying. I looked back over the recaps and found only three or four of them feature Ann's crying. For shame! Haha. But I just love her acting, and this is a beautiful shot, so what can I say?

I liked him from the first moment I met him. I tried to force myself into his life, because I wanted to be his girlfriend. And it was me again asking him to marry me because I love him. And I used the excuse that I loved him, but I did everything for my own sake. Until he had to withdraw from Poompadin's case, until he got shot and almost died. And do you think someone like me still deserves to be by his side?

I only think of you
This heart of mine is searching for you
Forever Cause baby
No matter how far we split apart
My heart is always with you but baby boy

No matter how much I want to see you, I can't
Please tell me why
I hate this
Baby I know this is selfish, but
Hug me and never let go
Embrace this loneliness and smash it
I want you to be by my side

365 Days of Love Episode 11 recap - Character Study

One of the reasons I made this blog is to improve my writing skills, so I'm trying a lot of different things with the recaps. Episode 11 has a lot of beautiful scenes. There are also a lot of character changes and growth in this episode, so I will be focusing on the characters of this lakorn.

365 Days of Love Episode 10 - Q & A time

Four more episodes to go and then it's the end of the 365 Days of Love recaps. I've been wondering what to recap next. Or maybe review. I don't want to do anything that popular, haha, since it would already have lots of stuff done on it. Maybe some little known Korean, Japanese, or Taiwanese series. Oh well, let's finish this one first.

Q&A time )
I'm struck, as usual, by Lan's or should I say, Ann's acting abilities. She makes Lan such a vulnerable character and since all the other lakorns of hers I've watched had her playing strong spirited women, Sawan Bieng, Oum Ruk, Soot Saneha, it's so fascinating to see her play such a different character.

365 Days of Love Episode 9

What a lovely episode. Finally, the case that has been mentioned about since practically the beginning of this lakorn comes into play, and Lan really begins to be a character to root for. Not to mention the music and direction. I loved the shots below, starting with a picture of the moon and then fading to the two lovers entwined on the bed.

I haven't talked much about things like direction, music, etc., but I feel this is really one of the better directed lakorns I've seen. The director really knows how to frame a scene and I have no complaints about the music or cinematography. Magnificent.

365 Days of Love Episode 8 recap: A Needy Time

I had a hard time with this recap. Writer's block? Nothing interesting happening? Anticipation for episode 9? I don't know. It just didn't seem to give me something to hold onto, some defining concept of what happened, until I went and started on the screen-shots. And I saw that this episode is really about  . . . the joy in a needy time. The silver lining in the cloud, if you will. A moment that makes things better . . . for a moment, just a moment. A needy time.

And joy comes well in such a needy time: (Romeo and Juliet, Act 3, scene 5)

A Needy Time... )

Mini-review of 365 Days of Love so far: I think it really made Lan think and mature when she was separated from Toon for a while. If episodes 1- 4 set up the background of the series and the basis of the troubles between Toon and Lan, episodes 5- 8 go into more depth about the psychology behind why they behave the way they do.

I really like the discussion of marriage in this lakorn and what it takes to be in a committed relationship. And I must say, Ann as Lan is WOW! She's sooo vulnerable, prickly and not necessarily all that likable, but in the coming episodes I grow to love her more and more.

365 Days of Love Episode 7 - A pictorial recap

I have a whole written recap planned, but decided to scratch it at the last moment and instead make this a recap of pictures. So it's more picture intensive than usual. The reason why is this episode really just sets the stage for the latter episodes, and though I appreciate that it's necessary, a lot of it seems likes what we've seen before, except hiked up to a whole new level of angst.

Episode 7 starts with Toon and Lan thinking about calling each other (she's at her mom's, he's at their home), but neither does.

Best 2010/2011 Dramas

I wasn't going to do one of these posts, partly because there are still 2010 dramas I want to watch, but then I thought, wouldn't it be fun to make a list of my favorites for 2010 and 2011 and compare them in a year's time?  Of course it would! Be fun, that is. If . . . if you're me.

~The Best of 2010~

10
. Wanida - (Thai lakorn)
This really wouldn't have made it to the list except for one factor. I call it the "Tik" factor. Really, this shouldn't be on the list at all. I mean, I liked the music, the sets, the clothes, but if only I had liked the plot which was riddled with cliches, stupid plot points or the heroine Wanida. Still, lovely scenery.

365 Days of Love Episode 6 recap - Speechless

I'm speechless
Can't believe it's over now
Why did we take this route
happily never after

I'm speechless
Feelin' far from sober now
I'm gonna be hung over now
'cause nothin' else matters

Should I drink my tears away
There's nothin' left to say
But let's just hope for a better tomorrow

365 Days of Love Episode 5 recap

I seriously fought with myself as I wanted to put  more pics of Ken (Toon) in shower at the top of this post. But fortunately, logic held sway and I present to you the many different expressions of Ann, playing Lai in this lakorn. And really, it's not all about Ken and his good looks. The lakorn is really about Lai and the wonderful combo team of Ken and Ann. (Besides, I can put those pictures at the end of this post.)

365 Days of Love Episode 4 recap

This episode is all about Toon. Toon's experiencing what Lan has since the lakorn's beginning: jealousy. So please forgive the Toon-centricness of the pics today. Plus, I love taking pics of him, he's so handsome.

Episode 4 recap... )

Review
of 365 Days of Love so far: I'm liking the fact that for once Toon's jealous, and the acting of the leads, but the same ol' situations keep showing up, with Lan's jealousy making them argue, then they make up. Been there, seen that. Thankfully, things start to change a little and pick up, especially in episode 7. Right now, I'm only tolerating Lan's character because of Ann's acting, but it's only when she starts to mature and grow that I begin to like Lan

365 Days of Love Episode 3 recap

E
pisode 3 of 365 Days of Love comes with two welcome new developments. First of all, Toon gets a new rival, Weet, which is great since up until now, the jealousy has all been on Lan's side. Way too lopsided. It's not really unexpected though, as most lakorns have more than rival for the main girl. We also get a little more background info on Lan and her family, thus getting a better idea of why she acts the way she does.

Office Scene - 365 Days of Love Ep. 14 Spoiler

I've just finished the Thai lakorn 365 Days of Love (or 365 Wan Han Ruk) starring power couple Ken (Toon) and Ann (Lan) as a married couple with a lot of problems. The last episode started off with a bang! A very awesome scene showcasing Ken and Ann's magnetic chemistry.

365 Days of Love Ep 2. recap

365 Days of Love Episode 2

Episode 2 is where the question what came first, the chicken or the egg, really comes into play.

The Chicken or the Egg? (or 365 Days of Love Episode 1 recap)

(Wedding party: Groom's sister Ting, the groom Toon, the bride Lan, and the groom's Dad)

What came first? The chicken or the egg? I've always been annoyed crapless by that debate. Because as far as I can see, who cares what came first? Or how about this one.  If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Again, what do I care? They raise important philosophical questions about cause and effect and reality, but again I've never really wanted to talk about them . . . until now.

2010 Lakorns, Dramas to Watch

(Random Tik picture, what can I say?)

I must say, I seem to be in a Thai lakorn mood recently. I just finished watching Wanida, and most of the dramas I'm looking forward to are Thai dramas. That could be because I don't really want to download things (due to the fact that my hard drive is almost full and I don't want to buy anything else or delete anything yet, so I'm waiting to watch the stuff I already have) and a lot of Thai lakorns aren't available for download anyways and those that do have poorer quality.

Manee Yard Fah - Thai lakorn

Just finished watching episode 10 as subbed by the wonderful anonymousblue2001. Just awesome.  It's one of those lovers separated by fate sort of deals. Aree (played by Ann Thongprasom) must go back to her country where she's the Princess and leave behind her husband Charnchon, who is played by Willy McIntosh. She doesn't tell him, but she's still upset and he asks her why. She talks about how they both know they can't be together forever (they got married to provide a cover for her to live as a commoner), and he spins a dream for her, for them both, where they live peacefully together in a house he builds for them. So this one night, they hug, they kiss and she leaves the next morning.

The story ain't that different. Certain plot ideas are just loopy and other events drag on too long. But the chemistry between the couple, and the sincerity of Ann's acting makes me feel for the characters.
