I've written about Wanida before, but decided to do a proper review. I enjoyed watching it, although it has its flaws. You know those dramas that you watch until the end, but can barely remember? Yeah, this was one of those.

Looking at scenes and pictures for this review was surprisingly pleasant. I guess I enjoyed it more than I thought I did.

Wanida Review )

I wasn't going to do one of these posts, partly because there are still 2010 dramas I want to watch, but then I thought, wouldn't it be fun to make a list of my favorites for 2010 and 2011 and compare them in a year's time?  Of course it would! Be fun, that is. If . . . if you're me.

~The Best of 2010~

. Wanida - (Thai lakorn)
This really wouldn't have made it to the list except for one factor. I call it the "Tik" factor. Really, this shouldn't be on the list at all. I mean, I liked the music, the sets, the clothes, but if only I had liked the plot which was riddled with cliches, stupid plot points or the heroine Wanida. Still, lovely scenery.

Best 2010/2011 dramas cont. )

(Random Tik picture, what can I say?)

I must say, I seem to be in a Thai lakorn mood recently. I just finished watching Wanida, and most of the dramas I'm looking forward to are Thai dramas. That could be because I don't really want to download things (due to the fact that my hard drive is almost full and I don't want to buy anything else or delete anything yet, so I'm waiting to watch the stuff I already have) and a lot of Thai lakorns aren't available for download anyways and those that do have poorer quality.

Cinderella's stepsisters aka Wanida's friends  Wicked stepmother, Prince's ex aka Wanida's mother-in-law, and Wanida's hubby ex
Cinderella's ugly stepsisters, aka Wanida's friends                  Evil Stepmom, Prince's ex aka Wanida's mother in law, Hubby's ex

So, let's recap, shall we? Wanida consists of pretty pictures and people. The characters are mostly cardboard cutouts from fairy tales, the music's a dream, the plot's a rehash and side stories are boring and uninteresting. And having watched all 16 episodes, (well, skimming the last three episodes, really filler material, by the way), I have to ask myself why. It got high ratings I believe and generally positive reviews. But why did I keep watching it?
Why did I keep watching??? )
Just started watching the thai lakorn Wanida. It's very old school, in that it's a remake of a famous lakorn from the 1970's and is set in the 1940s? I believe.

It also stars two of the most popular lakorn stars, Tik Jesadaporn, Aff Taksaorn.  Wanida, the main heroine (played by Aff) is a spoiled brat of 22 years old, who can't drive a car, can't ride a bike and can't seem to do anything without failing at it. Her loving father is a loan shark and the family of Mahasak comes under his clutches. The older brother, who has a fiancee of his own, reluctantly marries Wanida  to save his family from bankruptcy (it was his younger brother who borrowed the money, but he skipped town). Naturally, he's not impressed by Wanida, although they have that mutual awareness glance in like episode 2. Which is also the episode they get married in.

Why . . . ? )
