I just got finished watching the first two episodes of the Hong sister's latest Best Love, one episode of Lie to Me, two episodes of the twdrama Drunken to Love You, not to mention continuing Keizoku 2: Spec. So, time for some awards!
Best Written Romantic Comedy: Best Love by far. Contains so many in-jokes regarding k-pop culture, I'm glad girlfriday and javabeans are there to recap. The main characters are also complex and interesting.
Best-Looking Male Character: In a shocking twist, I'm going for Sebumi in Keizoku 2: Spec. Sorry, but I just find him handsome and awesome. I hate the lead actor's hair in Lie to Me, and Cha Seung-Won has been dressed shabbily so far in Best Love, and Joseph's just okay in Drunken to Love Me.
Best Breaking and Entering Scene: Between Best Love and Drunken to Love You, I have to give it to Drunken to Love You, mainly due to the pregnant friend's antics.
Most Laughs: Best Love wins again. The scene where Jin clicks his heels and the scene at the end of episode 1 caught me off guard and made me chuckle.
Most Powerful Moment: All the romance comedies had break up moments, but I was unfazed by all of them, and found this moment in Best Love to be the most touching. (spoiler ahead) Ae-Jung is slapped by her old manager, but still manages to come back and tell the girls to behave well so as to not become like her. Which leads to my next award.
Best character: Definitely goes to Ae-Jung in Best Love. I like nice characters and she's nice, but also well grounded in reality and willing to let herself get hurt to help other people. So brave.
Best Supporting Comic Lead: So far, I'm liking the pregnant friend in Drunken to Love You. I love the way she talks to her baby and just her actions in general.
Most Likely to Continue to Watch?: All of them! Best Love is the best so far (haha), and it's interesting to see what the Hong sisters will come up with next. After that scene of the chasing pig in YAB, I expect to find some comic gold in this drama.
And Lie to Me episode 1 was okay, if not great, I still want to stick around and see what happens next.
I didn't think much of Drunken to Love You ep 1 or 2, even though this type of plot is one of my favorites because I found the humor pedestrian, remained unmoved until pregnant friend showed up right on time in episode 2. Also, the fact that the leads stopped bickering long enough to actually talk to each other and listen made me garner more of liking for them.
And last, but not least . . .
Most Anticipated Drama: Keikozu 2: Spec
Shocker, right? If you've read my previous post on Keikozu 2: Spec (see here for details), you'll know that I didn't think much of Keikozu 2. But episodes 4 and 5 of Keikozu 2: Spec raised the stakes considerably from the first three episodes.
What's that I see? Emotions? Actual, real emotions from both of the leads? And although Toma is still being abused like an anime character (you know, the ones that can be hit and beat up repeatedly and pop right back up good as new) by Sebumi, the two actually have real conversations with each other and help each other.
We learn more about the background of Toma, at last, and chief police Nonomura actually stands up like a man for a second before relapsing back into his role as inept comic relief police chief. I'm in. The story and plot all start coming together and there's increased danger and anticipation in the air. (Oh, sorry about that. The anticipation's from me.) Ok, so now I'm emotionally invested in these characters and all I gotta say is, what's next?
