Melancholy meet cute. Evil vs Good. Haha, I couldn't have picked two more disparate lakorns if I had tried to. I mean look at these cover pictures!
And yes, that's a hand there, stretched menacingly towards May (played by Kwan Usamanee) and Peempob (played by uh?). Basically, Meu Nang (aka Mother's Hand) is about the events that befalls May after her mother dies in a car accident. Her mother's hand is severed from her body and her husband takes it and (gulps) keeps it.
And then there's the horde of pink in Awajee See Chompoo's picture. Awajee See Chompoo is a sweet little lakorn about a high school girl who marries an older guy due to her dying mother's wishes. Both lakorns are being subbed on viki.com, but aren't finished yet.
Meu Nang has got to be one of the saddest lakorns I've seen in a long time. I usually don't watch these types of supernatural horror lakorns, because the special effects are usually horrendous enough to make it seem very unbelievable to me (see picture above). And several times, I've stopped watching this, especially after seeing May cradling her dead mother's hand and running around with it.
But, there's something compelling about the lakorn. There's an air of profound melancholy that shrouds the whole lakorn, from the beginning to end. Even the opening is depressing. Very little good happens in this lakorn and when it does, you can bet there's evil to follow soon afterwards.
In ep 12, (which hasn't been subbed yet so I'm just guessing, hopefully fairly accurate guesses), the evil dude (shown in photo above) has some voodoo thing going on and is controlling the hero Peempob.
Peempob has been in love with the heroine May for a long time, but under the mystical powers of voodoo, he slaps May and goes off to play with another girl. It's disturbing really on a number of different levels. Haha, I don't have time to go into all those different levels now though, so I'll focus on just one point.
The girl May grew up in a home in which she was unloved and abused and neglected. There's this heartrending scene in ep 6 (watch here) in which the grown up May flashes back to a time when she was a little kid and was basically forced to stay outside in the pouring rain. The little girl who acts in this scene is soooo adorable and so realistic in her acting, I can't help but wonder how they got her to act like that.
But this is getting wayyy too sad, so I'm switching to Awajee See Chompoo (aka Abyss of Hell is the Colour of Pink). I'm on episode 5 and it continues to be cute. I really don't think the leading man Por Tridsadee is my idea of handsome, but he's turning out to be a good actor, who knew? I liked him in Taddao Bussaya as well, but he seems a bit more appealing here for some reason.

Ep. 5 has jealousy and dancing. I'm looking forward to more cute scenes from this couple, Bakpok and Pawalam (played by actress Ja Jittapa) The lakorn is basically sweet and romantic, and is made all the more poignant by the fact that that Pawalam is a rich heiress surrounded by grasping relatives and Bakpok is an orphan who was taken in by Pawlam's mom. Really, they only have each other.
But as of yet, they're still tiptoeing around it, not willing to acknowledge they are more than uncle and niece relationship. The awareness of each other is there, the admiration, the desire for each other's company. But if they acknowledged it, they couldn't be together because no one wants them to have a real marriage.

. . .
Okayyyy, that didn't exactly raise my spirits any.
