Watching Now: Mia Taeng

Mia Taeng is the new lakorn in town, and it looks to be a fun and satisfying one (please don't start to drag!). It stars Rome Patchata and Araya Chompoo as a couple who get married due to their parents wishes. Araya is cool, calm and collected, while Rome's the hot tempered playboy.

Meet our pra-ek (main lead) Mr. Dumb as can be, Douchebag, Unthinking Brute, Playboy, Mama's Boy, henceforth named Mr. Dumb. He comes off as a total loser, an arrogant, unthinking brute who reacts rather than thinks. Not to mention the fact that's he's apparently got 3 girls fighting over him.

Ah, fresh meat, Mr. Dumb thinks. Our nang'ek, Arunprapai. Intelligent, well-mannered, but not afraid to speak her mind. She's so not impressed when she comes across girls fighting over Mr. Dumb twice in one day. In fact, she tries to persuade one girl not to fight over a guy who's insulted her like that.

Mr. Dumb licks his lips and starts after her. Mmmm, she purty. But he gets slapped by her for being disrespectful.

This is his main squeeze, Bproong, who's none too bright herself. His mom doesn't like the girl or her family.

(She's always looking at him as if he crawled out of a garbage can, which may be the case!)

So she gets Arunprapai to marry her son. Why does Arunprapai marry Mr. Dumb? Well, Pai's boyfriend got another girl pregnant, but he keeps coming to see her, wanting to make up with her.

So Arunprapai marries Mr. Dumb to protect herself from taking him back, saying she doesn't believe in love anymore. Also, their parents are friends, and her parents encouraged it.

So they marry, and he does all sorts of immature things to get her attention, which merely results in her looking at him like he's an idiot. Which he is.

(Mr. Dumb tries to put the moves on her, Mr. Dumb with his girlfriend to his wedding.)

Disgusted with her disinterest in him, Mr. Dumb takes every opportunity to show her how uninterested he is in her, by parading around with his girlfriend, touching her whenever he can, and telling her ex-boyfriend to buzz off whenever he comes calling.

(Pai saves Mr. Dumb with her quick thinking, but of course Mr. Dumb doesn't appreciate it.)

Why bother watching this then since Mr. Dumb is so awful? Well, there are subtle hints that Mr. Dumb isn't as bad as he seems. The people around him seem to think he's okay generally and his servant even claims he's marrying for Mom's sake, not for Mom's money.

And there appears to be more going on beneath the surface then is shown in episode 1. 

Frankly, it's really satisfying to see the nang-ek Arunprapai shoot Mr. Dumb down again and again.
